Our story
Modest wear that holds up
Modesty by Tayyaba started because good modest clothing was surprisingly hard to buy. Plenty of it photographed well and fell apart after three washes. Plenty more was built to last and cut like a sack.
So we started making the pieces we wanted: abayas cut generously enough to move in, in fabrics chosen to keep their colour and drape, finished properly at the seams where it shows after a year rather than on the hanger.
Everything is made in small runs. When a piece sells out it sometimes stays that way, because we would rather stop than switch to a cheaper cloth to keep it in stock.
What we care about
-
Fabric first
We choose cloth before we choose a design. Every fabric is washed and worn before it goes into production, because how something behaves after a month matters more than how it looks on day one.
-
Cut to move in
Our abayas are cut generously through the shoulder and sleeve. They are made for school runs, long shifts and late weddings, not just for standing still.
-
Small runs
We produce in small batches so we can keep quality consistent and waste low. It means pieces sell out, and it means the ones you get were actually checked.
